Ponies in the Park

Good news.

I'm in the last stages of contract negotiations with Terra Nova National Park to use my two Newfoundland Ponies in the park this winter to help clean up one of their campsites from the damage caused by hurricane Igor this past fall.

Work will begin hopefully before the snow settles in and I'll be in the park with the horses for various visitor events over the winter as required.

This will a first in Newfoundland, and perhaps in Canada. Horses have not been used to work in the woods of this park for almost three generations. From what I can gather, the last horses were used by my great-grandfather King in Minchin's Cove prior to their logging operation shutting down in the late 40's.

This project has potential to educate people about the plight of the pony and bring the Endangered Newfoundland Pony to the forefront of Newfoundland's burgeoning tourism sector. Perhaps it could even help return the plight of the pony to the forefront of "Intangible Cultural Heritage" discussions currently circulating. Gonna give it a try anyway!!
